Our Miracle!
Austin is now pretty much completely off the diet and doing great so far. Dr. K said that if we get through November with no seizures he's basically considered cured for life!!!!! PRAISE OUR ALMIGHTY MIRACLE-WORKING ALWAYS-AMAZING GOD! FOREVER AND EVER AMEN!

BIG CHANGES AHEAD!
We got back from Baltimore/DC this afternoon. The trip was a bit stressful due to flight delays and changes as well as lost luggage, but Austin's appt itself went GREAT!
HE'S COMING OFF THE DIET!!!!!
We're adding around 10 carbs a week and he should be completely off by early September. Not quite in time for school, but close!
Our other big news is that Jeff got a job with Great Plains in Red Cloud, NE, so we're moving! It's going to be very hard for me to leave Imperial, but we believe God is guiding us! The kids will sure miss their grandparents and vice versa, but we will also be closer to Celeste, and Aust is VERY excited about that! Austin is excited about the move althogether, but we'll see if it hits him after we're gone. :) He and I visited the school there and we both really like it! He's so excited to start kindergarten!
Jeff and I are going to Red Cloud on Saturday to look at a house. We're hoping they'll rent it to us until our house sells, but we'll see.
We would appreciate your prayers as we start these new journeys in our lives!

Austin's EEG
We had Austin's EEG yesterday in Denver. We haven't heard the doctor's results yet but the technician told us he had a few discharges during sleep. The great thing is these aren't actual seizures. The tech explained it like one person in a football stadium doing the wave, and no one else joins in. WHICH IS A GOOD THING! We don't want others to join in! So basically his body or brain don't respond to the discharges but they're there none the less.
We were beyond devastated when she told told us. (Word to the wise don't tell a sleep deprived pregnant woman something she doesn't want to hear.) We were so expecting it to be completely normal. His EEG last summer was normal but with incomplete results since he didn't sleep during it. Now that it's had time to soak in we are just thankful we have a healthy boy who's not having seizures. 2 years ago we were losing him faster than we could have ever imagined.
I have not spoke with Dr. K yet and he probably won't get the EEG results until early next week. So we won't know exactly what this means for us until we talk to him. We're assuming it means we'll do the diet for another 6 months to finish the recommended 2 full years of seizure freedom, but we'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for all your prayers! You have been there for us from the very beginning and we are so grateful! And let us not forget The One who has given us so many miracles and held our hands through this journey, our Amazing Lord and Savior.
Will update you when we know more. We're going to Elitch Gardens today! The concierge at the hospital gave us a huge discount on tickets as well as a free one for Aust! Talk to you soon!

Another Great Report
Dr. Kossoff was once again impressed with how great Austin is doing. He's growing great and having absolutely no problems that some other kids run into on the diet. Dr. K said we're on the home stretch now and doesn't see any reason to continue the diet for the full two years! We have to get another EEG done in June and then we'll go back to Baltimore in July. If all is well we'll start weaning the diet! PRAISE GOD WHO HAS GIVEN US SO MANY MIRACLES! We couldn't be more thrilled and blessed to have a normal healthy boy! Thank you for your prayers. We couldn't have done it without you! I'll try and get pictures posted today!

Belated Milestone!
Wow, we've been so swamped that I didn't even realize what a huge milestone we hit on Sunday. Austin's been on the diet for ONE YEAR now! Wow how time flies. I didn't think we'd ever be able to get used to it. We got off to a rocky start, but I praise God every day for this diet miracle. Our boy is SEIZURE FREE!

Our Miracle
I just heard the results. EEG NORMAL - FULL REMISSION. I am in awe of You. As tears of joy stream down my face, I fall to my knees and praise You for Your miracles. How can anyone not believe in You?
Do I know why You put this upon us in the first place? No I don't. Someday I plan on asking You face to face. What I do know... I am closer to You. I am closer to my son. I am closer to my husband. I am closer to my daughter. I've met people I never would have met. Is that why You did it? To save me? It worked. You are the Ultimate Miracle Worker.
10 months ago, Austin was having seizures every day, sometimes up to 50. He was suffering. I was suffering. The EEG showed next to the worst there is. Seizure activity in his brain even when he wasn't having seizures. Our little boy was quickly slipping away from me, but I didn't lose faith. I knew You would bring us through...and You did.
I don't know what to say. I want to proclaim Your Miracle Work from the top of the world. You are The One. You are The Only. Thank You Lord. Thank You thank You thank You thank You. You saved him. You saved me. You saved our family. We will praise You forever and ever. You are always first in our lives. Thank you for letting us see who our little boy can be. We love You. Forever.
To our family and friends: Thanks for your prayers! We couldn't have done this without you! If you know of a good verse that fits this situation I'd love to hear it! Thanks!

EEG #3
We had an EEG at Children's in Denver yesterday. We'll have to wait for the dr's results but the technician said she didn't notice any seizure activity! I will let you know the results as soon as we know!

Hanging out in the waiting room.
Tayvin came with us this time. She was an angel!
Doesn't Jeff look great in my new Babyhawk carrier?
Sticking on the 27 electrodes. He didn't like it.
All wrapped up.
He had to blow on a pin wheel for 3 minutes because hyperventilation can be a seizure trigger. He also had to look at a series of flashing strobe lights.
Playing at the mall.
Making friends.
Time to leave. :(
Leaving Sam's Club. Aren't they cute? :)

Great Report from Baltimore
We got back from Baltimore last night and we are very pleased with how the trip and appointment went. Dr. Kossoff is so great and we are so grateful to have found him and the diet. He was very pleased with how well Austin is doing. We started weaning Austin off one of his meds today. We'll go back to Baltimore in November and if everything's still going well we'll wean the other med. And here's the GREAT news, if everything continues to go well after that, we will start weaning the diet in May of next year!!! That's a good 6-12 months before what I was expecting. YEAH GOD!
However, it is possible that Austin could start having seizures again as we wean the meds, so please pray he remains seizure free!
Overall we had a great trip. Thanks for all your prayers!

Baltimore Trip
We fly to Baltimore on Monday, May 19 to see Dr. Kossoff on May 20. We're planning on just making this a shopping trip since I didn't allow for much time between the appointment and the flight back home. We're arriving around 4:30 p.m. eastern time on the 19th so we can spend the evening there. The appointment is at 11 a.m. ET the next day and then we're flying out around 5:30 p.m. I believe we will be able to start weaning Aust off the meds!

When it all began...
Little did I know that one year ago today, in a split second our lives would never be the same. I experienced the worse moment of my life as I helplessly watched my son convulsing and unresponsive. I saw his life flash before my eyes and I feared the worst. Unfortunately, I will never be able to get that dreadful image out of my head, along with so many others after. However, with God's grace we are pulling through these trials.
To think of all we've been through in the last year is overwhelming. God works in mysterious ways. I don't know why this had to happen, but because of it we are closer to God and each other. We praise Him for leading us to Dr. Kossoff and this miraculous diet. Only God knows where we would be today without it.
Today Austin is 126 days seizure free. We give God the glory and we'll continue to depend on Him to bring us all the way through! Austin has been unbelievably strong and brave. I can't even imagine what he went through and the trauma he must have experienced. He continues to amaze me every day with his patience and tolerance on the diet. He is no doubt an amazing child of God!

Celebration!
We went out to eat tonight to celebrate 100 days of seizure freedom! Austin got to eat one small French fry for a treat. He was so grateful and didn't even ask for another one. What a trooper! We are so thankful for answered prayers!
